Trey Tuesday - January 22, 2013

Rock Solid

Temperatures below freezing - and staying there! - ensure that the soggy, rain soaked ground is finally firm! The weeds will be dying.  The bugs will be dying (except for the stink bugs that are safe in my house!)
I'm not quite ready to step out on the nearby lake, though.  The puddles, yes.  The lake, no.
I know if I step in/on a frozen puddle, that thin layer of water/ice is frozen rock solid.
The lake cannot be trusted.

Ever feel like life is like that?
The shallow things in life are easy to maneuver, even easy to invest a little trust.
But the deeper things? What? Risk ending up more vulnerable than an icy dip in the lake in January!??!

This Trey Tuesday I ask you to skip the rock solid analogies when it comes to relying on God.
He is Rock Solid, the Solid Rock, regardless of the weather in your neighborhood AND in your heart and life!
"For who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is a Solid Rock?"
Psalm 18:31 NLT

Throughout Trey's journey, God has been 100% Rock Solid Reliable Dependable Trustworthy...despite anything!
Trey's past, present and future are in His Reliable Hands...and pssssttttt.....yours are too!  :)

So jump in with us!  Both feet!  As we abandon fear and doubt and uncertainty and pray for Trey's continued treatments!
We ask for many more awesome reports!  And a miracle healing!  :)
And for the light of Trey and Jesus to shine brightly in the hospital to a watching and needy world!
And for strength and peace for Jay and Rachel and Joe and Bella and Trey!

“Jesus said, 'Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the Rock."
Matthew 7:24, 25

Trey Tuesday - January 15, 2013

The Roar or the Whisper?

No, I'm not talking about Trey's voice (although I could be!) :)
Let's take a peek into I Kings 19 when Elijah is hiding from opposing forces which were out to get him.

"Elijah was afraid and ran for his life." verse 3
Ever feel like that?
Think you can outrun your problems, stresses, fears?

"He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die." verse 4
Wow!  Elijah seems hopeless/desperate...out of possibilities.
From his point of view....

"All at once an angel touched him" verse 5
Well, well, well....I guess the human perspective was trumped by an angel sent by God Himself!
Elijah gave up.  Surrendered.  Quit trying with his own might.
And God's messenger came near...near enough to touch him!!!

But the story doesn't end there!
Strengthened for the journey, Elijah travels to a cave at the mountain of God.
Perhaps to hide?  Perhaps to rest?
God had other plans...

"The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by." verse 11
Wait!  What!?!?!  Stand out on the mountain?
What if something happens while I am out there?
What if it's dangerous?
'You know, God,' Elijah might say, 'the depths of the cave sure are cozy and warm and....uh....safe!'

"Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind.
After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.
After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.
And after the fire came a gentle whisper." verses 11 and 12

Oh, Team Mitlo One, Trey has been through the wind, the earthquakes and the fires lately!
Things like the stomach bug over the course of 5 days, CT scan, with contrast!, CT report, flu shot, and weekly treatment - without getting into
sibling rivalry, typical 4 year old behavior and moods, and oh yeah - cancer!
God indeed has spoken to many of us through those trials.
But perhaps God chooses to whisper...a gentle whisper.
Are you still enough to hear Him?
Do you speak the "language?"
Would you recognize His voice?

The Mitlos have been out on the mountain and your prayers have surrounded them!
THANK YOU for lifting up Trey and Jay and Rachel and Joe and Bella and Trey's team of doctors and nurses!
Thank you for rallying when the going gets tough!
And thank you for being there for the day to day!  :)

We shout out praise to God for this season of a HUGE blessing of NO GROWTH on Trey's scan!  :)
And yet we intimately whisper to God, pleas of continued great health and strength and joy and peace for Trey and his family!
Please continue to also boldly approach the throne of God on Trey's behalf, asking for God's mercies and richest blessings for the healing of his cancer!

"He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed."
Psalm 107:29

Trey Tuesday - January 8, 2013

This Trey Tuesday brought to you by Rachel - nobody speaks a passionate plea like a mom (or dad!)

Rachel writes:  This is a SCAN week! Trey will have (yet another) CT scan on Thursday. As always, we need to be there early so that he can get an hour of hydration before the scan, while he drinks the nasty contrast juice. Then the scan, then back to the clinic for more hydration (the contrast fluid can be hard on regular kidneys, so Trey's lone kidney needs to be protected). Please be praying for a STABLE scan. NO GROWTH! IF the scan is stable, then Trey will start another round of treatment that day. If the tumor(s) have grown, then he's out of the study and we need to come up with a plan B (or at this point more like a plan H). Thank you all for praying.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." ~Philippians 4:6-7
Here's my take on these verses....bear (bare?) with me, a scholar I am not. ;) I have read this about 1 million times over the years and it always strikes me as impossible. Who DOESN'T feel anxious every now and then? Who would blame me for feeling anxious as I wait for results that could mean life or death for my son? So, am I a failure? Am I not strong enough? Then it struck me!

Do you see the word 'but' in there? To me, that changes the whole thing! To me, it says 'try not to be anxious, but when you are, make sure you talk to Me about it.'

And the word 'guard'...this verse doesn't say that all of a sudden I'm going to be light hearted about Trey's scan. No! It says that God will protect my heart and mind from being taken over by anxiousness/fear.

Another verse: "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." ~ 1 Peter 5:7

Again, this verse acknowledges the anxiety that we will feel...but reminds us to give it to God.
Soooooo, I know this is my loose interpretation. And I know we're not supposed to worry and fret, especially about inconsequential things. If you think I'm super way off base, let me know. Thanks for praying!!!

Trey Tuesday - December 18, 2012

Jay and Rachel, Did You Know?

"I, the LORD, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob."
Isaiah 60:16

Jay and Rachel did you know when you said, "I Do" your first born would fear all mascots?
Jay and Rachel did you know when you said, "I Do" your girl's spunk would cause you much growth?
Did you know that your open home would host both old and new?
The life that you had chosen, would soon be turned askew?

Jay and Rachel did you know that your baby boy would one day battle cancer?
But Jay and Rachel did you know that that baby boy would shine and soar through all things?
Did you know that your baby boy would be lifted in prayer worldwide?
This child that you've delivered, brings Joy and Hope to life!

Jay and Rachel did you know?

Team Mitlo prays, and cheers you on, wears bracelets red and gold...
The Facebook posts, the phone calls too, the love won't ever cease!

Trey's friends do you know that Trey gets his strength from the Lord of all creation?
Trey's friends do you know that the Lord can heal all that burdens you, too?
Do you know that the Christmas Child is God's gift to receive?
Jesus Christ, that Baby, is your Great I Am!

To conclude this Trey Tuesday, PLEASE watch this video on YouTube....it brings Christmas and Easter together!  :)

Trey Tuesday - December 11, 2012

Joy to the World!

Such an awesome song and amazing concept!
Oh, that the world would live with joy! :)
Or that shoppers would co-exist with joy! :)
Or that drivers would navigate with joy! :)
https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/u/0/?ui=2&ik=da733adba0&view=att&th=13b8bd7592d81049&attid=0.1&disp=inline&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P_-68XVMF2WXynzedDpEC6r&sadet=1355261867232&sads=j-47kcRejeXdWlQ3MAL64cTgnKY
Once again, we look to Trey for his example....Look at that photo and try not to smile!  :)
Despite Trey's circumstances, he has joy! :)
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds"
James 1:2

God's joy is plentiful enough for everyone!  :)
"rejoicing because God had given them great joy."
Nehemiah 12:43
As we pray this Trey Tuesday, yes, please continue to pray for great results with Trey's treatments!
"Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full."
John 16:24
Please also pray for Trey's dentist trip and all that could occur there (even with a typical 4 year old!)  :)
"leap for joy"
Luke 6:23
(ummm.....that may not be the best dentist verse!?!?)  :)
And continue to pray for Joe and Bella in this journey.
"Gladness and joy will overtake them"
Isiah 35:10

"the LORD had given them cause to rejoice"
2 Chronicles 20:27
And for Jay and Rachel and decisions they always need to be making.
"You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in Your presence."
Acts 2:28
And then, turn off the news tonight, or skip the Facebook updates and focus on an early Christmas gift to you:  J-O-Y!
"For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands."
Psalm 92:4

"I have spoken these things to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full"
John 15:11

Trey Tuesday - December 4, 2012

Who's Your Stewart?

I hope you took the chance to read about the awesome and creative Christmas antics going on at the Mitlos these days (instead of that pesky little Elf creature).  Here it is in a nut shell from Rachel : http://rachelmitlo.blogspot.com/
The kids got a letter in the mail from Stewart.  Stewart works for Santa but is so shy he doesn't want to be seen.  He's not here to check on behavior, but rather make sure the kids know why we really celebrate Christmas and to take a gift list back to Santa.  Everyday, the kids have to find Stewart's box.

Do your kids count on the Elf?
Or perhaps the big guy himself in his red suit and white beard?

What about you?
Who knows your heart's desires?
Who do you trust to make sure everything turns out the best way possible?

As we pray for Trey this Trey Tuesday, please ask the King of the Universe, God Almighty, for His very best for Trey!
"Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us."
Romans 8:34
