It’s Still July!

We still have 24+ more hours left in the month of July!  Many hours left to enjoy the beautiful sunshine, the lengthy days, the evening bonfires, and the sun kissed cheeks of kids exhausted from swimming.....without the doomsday feeling that August can bring....back to school, shorter days, cooler temps, and the holiday rushes!

Too many friends are being bombarded with one event after another lately, with no time in between to celebrate, grieve, or process.  Let's take a moment to press the PAUSE button on life......Stop and smell the roses......and the watermelon.....savor the flavor of fresh veggies....sit a little longer in your beach chair.....and spend some quality time with your loved ones!  <3

"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself."  Matthew 6:34

Go Back....

In I Kings 19:15 God spoke to Elijah after a time of hard work and exhausting circumstances: "Go back the way you came".

I can hear Elijah now:  Wait!  Whaaaaaat?  Go back!?!?  God, You want me to go BACK through all that heartache and pain?!

Imagine God saying that to Jay and Rachel:  Go back the way you came through your son's journey through cancer.  Gulp.

Insert your own name and circumstance:  _____________, go back through _________________.  Ouch.  Buttttttt.......

What if we focus on the lessons learned, a new depth of faith, closer relationships, and wisdom gleaned if we only dare to gaze backwards?

God is always always always up to something good!  When was the last time you looked back and thanked Him?

"I will consider all Your works and meditate on all Your mighty deeds.  Your ways, God, are holy.  What god is as great as our God?"  Psalm 77:12,13

Watermelon in January?

There's no comparison - a January watermelon is NOT a July watermelon!  The flavor and aroma are sooooo much better in season!

Trey would often eat the "filet" of the watermelon (and strawberry) - the most tender and juiciest tip!  Trey knew how to savor the moment and seize the opportunity!

How do you celebrate your season of life?
Savoring the season?
Or dreading the details?
Capturing every opportunity?
Or enduring the mundane?

Come on!  It's July!  Go for the watermelon filet!

Jesus said, '"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
John 10:10

Handicapped?  Disabled?

When you think of Trey running around heaven, does he still have cancer?

What about your dear friend who is crippled with arthritis?  Will he/she be chasing after Trey?

And what about all the soldiers maimed in battle?

Will each of their broken bodies be made to look "normal"?  New?

Honestly I wrestle with this.  I don't struggle with God's Word about Heaven.  I struggle with our culture's definition of what is good.  And what our goal is.

Those who are disabled accept help from others a lot of times.  They are also more open and honest about their disabilities.  They tend to live with a more vulnerable point of view.

Those without disabilities tend to be prone to live private, proud, and self-sufficient lives.

Hmmmm.....which life sounds more like God's plan for "loving one another"? John 13:34  Which life celebrates Psalm 139:14"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

When you look in the mirror in the morning, consider who God Himself created you to be.  Disable yourself of your agenda and surrender your handicap - yourself - to the life God has planned for you!

"His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence." 2 Peter 1:3

Sunshine

Trey sang a precious rendition of, "You are My Sunshine".  The words might not have been in the correct order - or intelligible! - but his sentiment was heartfelt!  :)  Hospitals, doctors, treatments, school - Trey brought his God given sunshine wherever he went!

Sunshine: brightness, warmth, strength, light, cheer, power, etc.

May your life, too, shine brightly with the love of God!

"But may all who love You, Lord,  be like the sun
when it rises in its strength.”  Judges 5:31
