Jay and Rachel, Did You Know?

"I, the LORD, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob."
Isaiah 60:16

Jay and Rachel did you know when you said, "I Do" your first born would fear all mascots?
Jay and Rachel did you know when you said, "I Do" your girl's spunk would cause you much growth?
Did you know that your open home would host both old and new?
The life that you had chosen, would soon be turned askew?

Jay and Rachel did you know that your baby boy would one day battle cancer?
But Jay and Rachel did you know that that baby boy would shine and soar through all things?
Did you know that your baby boy would be lifted in prayer worldwide?
This child that you've delivered, brings Joy and Hope to life!

Jay and Rachel did you know?

Team Mitlo prays, and cheers you on, wears bracelets red and gold...
The Facebook posts, the phone calls too, the love won't ever cease!

Trey's friends do you know that Trey gets his strength from the Lord of all creation?
Trey's friends do you know that the Lord can heal all that burdens you, too?
Do you know that the Christmas Child is God's gift to receive?
Jesus Christ, that Baby, is your Great I Am!

To conclude this Trey Tuesday, PLEASE watch this video on YouTube....it brings Christmas and Easter together!  :)

Joy to the World!

Such an awesome song and amazing concept!
Oh, that the world would live with joy! :)
Or that shoppers would co-exist with joy! :)
Or that drivers would navigate with joy! :)
https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/u/0/?ui=2&ik=da733adba0&view=att&th=13b8bd7592d81049&attid=0.1&disp=inline&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P_-68XVMF2WXynzedDpEC6r&sadet=1355261867232&sads=j-47kcRejeXdWlQ3MAL64cTgnKY
Once again, we look to Trey for his example....Look at that photo and try not to smile!  :)
Despite Trey's circumstances, he has joy! :)
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds"
James 1:2

God's joy is plentiful enough for everyone!  :)
"rejoicing because God had given them great joy."
Nehemiah 12:43
As we pray this Trey Tuesday, yes, please continue to pray for great results with Trey's treatments!
"Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full."
John 16:24
Please also pray for Trey's dentist trip and all that could occur there (even with a typical 4 year old!)  :)
"leap for joy"
Luke 6:23
(ummm.....that may not be the best dentist verse!?!?)  :)
And continue to pray for Joe and Bella in this journey.
"Gladness and joy will overtake them"
Isiah 35:10

"the LORD had given them cause to rejoice"
2 Chronicles 20:27
And for Jay and Rachel and decisions they always need to be making.
"You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in Your presence."
Acts 2:28
And then, turn off the news tonight, or skip the Facebook updates and focus on an early Christmas gift to you:  J-O-Y!
"For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands."
Psalm 92:4

"I have spoken these things to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full"
John 15:11

Who's Your Stewart?

I hope you took the chance to read about the awesome and creative Christmas antics going on at the Mitlos these days (instead of that pesky little Elf creature).  Here it is in a nut shell from Rachel : http://rachelmitlo.blogspot.com/
The kids got a letter in the mail from Stewart.  Stewart works for Santa but is so shy he doesn't want to be seen.  He's not here to check on behavior, but rather make sure the kids know why we really celebrate Christmas and to take a gift list back to Santa.  Everyday, the kids have to find Stewart's box.

Do your kids count on the Elf?
Or perhaps the big guy himself in his red suit and white beard?

What about you?
Who knows your heart's desires?
Who do you trust to make sure everything turns out the best way possible?

As we pray for Trey this Trey Tuesday, please ask the King of the Universe, God Almighty, for His very best for Trey!
"Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us."

Trey Tuesday - November 27, 2012

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Thanksgiving Thursday
Black Friday
Small Business Saturday
Cyber Monday
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Fresh snow fall
Houses decked with lights
Santa at the mall
Advent candles being dusted off
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Oh, the comfort of traditions!  :)

But what about your prayer life?
Comfortable in your traditions?

OK, OK...Pray for Trey Tuesday is a tradition...
But how do you pray for Trey (or anyone/anything else?)
In robotic, methodical tradition like hanging the decorations in the same place every year?

Why not mix things up this Christmas season?
"You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.”
Mark 7:8

Jesus simply states:  "This is my command: Love each other."
John 15:17
(That is certainly easier than keeping up with the Jones' traditional inflatable yard decorations and Christmas light display, right?!)

Thanks for loving Trey enough to set aside time to pray for him and his treatments and healing each week!  :)

Seek the heart of God that loves you so much - call it an early Christmas gift to you! :)

Let every heart prepare Him room...

It will be as if He answers:
All I Want for Christmas Is You.

Trey Tuesday - November 20, 2012

Overflowing!

Overflowing, oozing, bubbling and running over....
Made you think of post-Thanksgiving-dinner hot apple pie with ice cream and whipped cream, right!? :)
Well, actually I am thinking about Trey and cancer.

Paul in his letter to the Colossians teaches:
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him,
rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."
Colossians 2:6-7

Apple pie oozes apple goodness.
Cherry pie overflows cherry goodness. (all over my oven!) :)
What overflows from your life?
We can only overflow with what is inside!

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him,
rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."

We overflow with thankfulness to Christ Jesus our Lord!
We overflow with thankfulness for Team Mitlo One and all prayer warriors and friends who pray for Trey and his treatments and his healing!
We overflow with thankfulness for Trey and Jay and Rachel and Joe and Bella as they teach us how to
live in Christ,
live rooted in Christ,
live built up in Christ, and
live strengthened in the faith!

So this Thanksgiving, (and beyond!) when it is your turn to tell the family what you are thankful for,
just don't think of one canned phrase to squeak out...OVERFLOW with thankfulness from a thankful, faith-filled heart!  :)

"It is good to give thanks to the LORD"
Psalm 92:1

Trey Tuesday - November 13, 2012

Pray again!

Be honest with yourself....

What just went through your head/heart/stomach when you read those words?
A heavy sigh as you now realize what you forgot to do this morning?
A major guilt trip from a long lost habit or relationship?
Dread for the drudgery you feel at the Thanksgiving family dinner table?
Fear of the unknown?

Or are you like Trey?
Jay wrote a few weeks ago:
Tuesday afternoon – I just put Trey down for his nap and prayed for him…as always. Before I was done he said “pray again.” So I did. I thanked God that so many people pray for him, that so many people love him.
I can just imagine the warm, fuzzy setting....
Trey trusting Jay trusting God.
Like a comforting back rub when you can't lift one more muscle...
Like the relief of finally making it home after a long day...
Like the warmth of a genuine hug...
Like a reunion with a long lost friend....
Trey sighs..."Do it again, Daddy..."
It's that simple.

This Trey Tuesday as we pray for Trey, try it.
Pray again!

"Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."
Revelation 4:8

Trey Tuesday - November 6, 2012

I am convinced...

I am convinced that...
Neither Obama, nor Romney,
Neither Ryan nor Biden...
Neither health care, nor budgets,
Nor high unemployment...
Neither campaign phone calls, nor electoral votes,
nor anything else in all things elections,
will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

And as we pray for Trey this Trey Tuesday we can also say:
I am convinced that...
Neither neuroblastomas, nor surgeries,
Neither treatments, nor chemo...
Neither blood tests, nor CTScans,
Nor endless blood counts...
Neither fear nor doubt,
nor anything else in all things Trey,
will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future,
nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39

Turning the other cheek

We've all read the account in Matthew 5:39 or Luke 6:29:
"If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also."
Ouch...both in pain and in pride!
What is God telling us here?  To  subject ourselves to abuse?
Hmmm...quite the opposite!
Think about what physically and emotionally must go on when you turn the other cheek.
First strike: your head gets whipped to one side.
ouch.
We know God tells us to turn the other cheek.
How can you prepare to be struck again?
You must face the opposition head on....face to face...looking it in the eye!
Second strike: your head whips to the other side
ouch.
Back to the beginning, eye to eye, expecting what comes next....more and more and more....
Fear and running away and anger play no part here, you see.

Just like Trey!
Strike One:  Cancer
Strike Two: Chemo
Strike Three:  Surgery
Strike Four: Weekly Treatments
and much more and many more in between!

How does Trey handle it?  With his usual charm and wit, of course!
Bathed in a generous dose of trust!
Rachel's post from yesterday:
Monday night update! Thanks for praying, everyone!
Today went very smoothly and as we left Trey said "The hospital is SO much FUN!" Bless his sweet soul.Humanly unbelievable!  :)
Keep praying, friends!
God hears!
"With God all things are possible."

Run vs. Grace

When I was in elementary school the teachers used a writing assignment as an in-school punishment.
For whatever misdemeanor, a student would have to stay indoors during recess and copy a definition from the dictionary.
Not just any definition...no...the definition of "run."
More than 100 definitions of the word "run!"

I recently have been studying "grace."
It's pretty amazing that a deep concept like grace can be summed up in such a small number of definitions!

Definitions are a tricky thing....especially when it comes to people.
Does cancer define Trey?  ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Go ahead then - Try and define Trey!  :)

As we Pray for Trey this week, seek God's definitions and very best for Trey and his family!
Thank Him for His grace and mercy in the character of Trey!
And please pray for continued safe and effective treatments for Trey!

"Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen."

Good job!

While we watched the Steelers rally to victory over the Eagles this weekend, my daughter and I noticed a peculiar tradition.
Anytime a player did a great job at scoring or tackling or moving the ball down the field or stopping the other team
from moving the ball down the field, the team mates gathered around to show their support!
How did these tough men encourage one another?
The traditional pat on the back side of course, or a more assertive slap on the back, or the silliest of all:
crashing their helmet into the other player's helmet!  "Good job!"  BAM!?
(Don't even ask my mom about the Miss America tradition of mauling the winner with congratulatory!? hugs!)

Trey had a rough day yesterday with a stomach bug/reaction.
Trey had a BIG CT scan last week.
Joe and Bella live a unique life with a sibling with cancer, yet the very typical life of
being grade school kids with growing pains.
Jay and Rachel had decisions to make about surgery for a port for Trey.

How does Team Mitlo One rally?
With the same force as the Steelers, the same goal as the beauty contestants:
except in more spiritually acceptable ways!
* Storming the floodgates of heaven, praying for God's blessings over Trey!
* Encouraging Jay and Rachel with supportive texts and calls and messages!
* Showering the Mitlos with meals and gifts and hugs!

Thank you, for being a key member of Trey's prayer team!  Keep up the great work!  :)
And how amazing that despite geography or age or even political persuasion
we can all be on God's team!  :)

"Encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

Trey Tuesday - October 2, 2012

WWTD?

Yesterday was a long day.
- waiting for the results of Trey's CT scan
- wondering how one doctor's words could have such an impact
- worrying about Jay and Rachel and Joe and Bella and Trey and all that could happen next.
Yes, yesterday was a very long day.

And I should know.  I welcomed the day at 12:00:01a.m. with an inability to fall asleep.  Plenty of opportunity to
worry/pray for Trey.  Sometime after 1:00a.m. I fell asleep.  5:15a.m. wake up time came very quickly!
What to do today?  Hmmm...I know....worry and pray some more!
But I know myself better than that, so into the Word I went!  :)

My devotional yesterday focused on I Corinthians 16:13:
"Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong."
You see, worry had no place and I could no longer give it time.
I needed to be courageous and strong....dot dot dot....like Trey!
Trey knowing full well what he was going to be going through yesterday, faced it like a soldier!
He trusted his parents, his doctors, his nurses.  He was courageous and he was strong because of where he placed his trust.
gulp.
And, once again, the Young Warrior teaches me a lesson!  :)

Please wholeheartedly praise the Lord with us this Trey Tuesday for God's mercies in Trey's stable CT scan!
And thank Him that yes, in Christ we can be on guard!  Yes, we can stand firm in the faith!  Yes, we can be courageous!
And yes, we need to be strong!  Like Trey!  Like Jesus!

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9

Trey Tuesday - September 25, 2012

Inside on the Outside

Popular research indicates that our aches and pains can be caused by carrying grudges and bitterness for many years.  A nutritionist friend told me that our outer battles/sicknesses/maladies can be traced back to something going on on our inside.
Most of us, though, trudge through each day without taking/making the time to look that deep.
We treat the surface without looking within.

Trey's outer joy certainly portrays a trust-filled inner peace (except for when he is a Wild Young Warrior!)  :)
Yet cancer tries to wage a war inside him.
But>>>>>deeeeeeep inside Trey, by the grace and love of God, in Trey's tender, young heart he is strong and healthy and alive and well!  :)

How can we "get" that same peace?
Quit looking around you and at everyone else and look deep inside for that pure, clean heart of which the Psalmist, David cried:
"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."
Psalm 51:10
After you do that, all will not be well.
All will not go according to plan.
But...Christ our Healer, Redeemer, Counselor and Defender will take it from there!  :)
Release your cares - and Trey! and Trey's CT scan next week! - to His Supreme Wisdom!

"And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God,
to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul"
Deuteronomy 10:12

Trey Tuesday - September 18, 2012

"And there were also with Him other little ships."
Mark 4:36

A very familiar event told in the Bible is when Jesus calmed the furious squall in the ocean, despite the disciples' doubt and fear.
I consider Trey's cancer a pretty furious squall, don't you?
The effects of Trey's treatments and attention and bills and limitations and thoughts of the future rip through Jay and Rachel and Joe and Bella and Trey's
life worse than any tsunami ever!

But that doesn't discount what you and I go through on a daily basis!
We serve a mighty, mighty God!  He remembers each one of us!
How do we know that?
"And there were also with Him other little ships."

The main stage that day showcased Jesus in the ship, calming the disciples' fears, saving them from the threats looming and commanding the wind and the waves to:  "Be Still!"
"And there were also with Him other little ships."
Jesus calmed the sea for the other little ships as well!  :)
Have you relinquished the helm of your ship to Jesus?
He CAN and WILL calm all that swirls around you!

Thank you for your continued prayers for Trey!
Your love and prayers and support serve as life preservers for him and his family!
Please continue praying for Trey's CT scan coming up in a few weeks....

"He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!”
Mark 4:40-41

Trey Tuesday - September 11, 2012

Remembering....
Yes, it has been a day of remembering 9/11....
Beyond that, though, what else causes you to remember?
Birthdays, for sure!
Anniversaries, of course!
Holidays (well, the big ones anyway!)  :)
Under the leadership of Samuel, the Israelites took the ministry of remembering very seriously.  Samuel set up a monument to remind them of God's strong Hand in their victories.  The monument was called an Ebenezer, saying, "Thus far the Lord has helped us."  I Samuel 7:12  The stone pillar reminded the Israelites of all that God had done for them.  Did the stones have any magical power?  Did the Ebenezer grant their wishes?  Did it promise success whenever the Israelites faced opposition?  No.  The stones served as a reminder - pointing them to God and His power!  :)
What are your Ebenezers?
Your bank account?
Your car?
Your job?
Your vacation home?
Your health?
Your family?
Mine is Trey!  :)
To see and hear the life in Trey, despite all that he has been through and all that he continues to go through, encourages me to press on in God's power and timing!
To watch and follow Jay and Rachel as they faithfully journey on, I remember the One who is the object of their faith!
To imagine Joe and Bella living day to day in the midst of uncertainty, I hold tight to the trust found in our Rock, Jesus Christ!
Please remember all that God has done for you - and for each of us in Team Mitlo One - beginning with Trey!
Praise God for Trey's great "health!"
Praise Him and remember all that He has done through and with Trey!
And please pray for many, many more great days of remembering!
Trey will have a CT scan in a few weeks - please keep praying for NO growth!  :)
"Thus far the Lord has helped us."  I Samuel 7:12

Trey Tuesday - September 4, 2012

"I perfect!"

Rachel reminds us this week:  Today is the first treatment of this cycle for Trey...after 4 treatments, Trey will get another CT scan to evaluate what's happening inside. From the outside, everything looks perfect....just ask Trey and he'll tell you "I perfect!"

What confidence!  What truth!  :)  Trey IS perfect!  :)
Can you say the same?
Do you feel the same?

Biblically speaking "perfect" means "complete."  Not that we are ever finished with the refining process of God's
grace and mercy, but that through the work of Jesus, we can rest from trying to fix things ourselves.  In Christ
we are complete:  perfect!  :)  Just like Trey!

This week as you pray for Trey, please seize the confidence that Trey has and go before our Provider God and pray for:
- continued no growth inside Trey!
- continued amazing, fun, joy-filled, silly, sweet, tender times with Trey!
- peace for Joe!
- joy and comfort for Bella!
- wisdom and hope for Jay and Rachel!
- "perfection" for you!

"Because of Christ and our faith in Him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God's presence."
Ephesians 3:12

Trey Tuesday - August 28, 2012

Jay shares a peek into a tiny part of the experience at the CureSearch walk last weekend:
Joe walked the entire 1.5 miles holding the "Team YoungWarrior" sign above his head. He mentioned once that his side really hurt but he wouldn't let the sign down.
Joe's devotion to his duty is more than remarkable!  It is inspirational!  :)

Who/what are you devoted to so much that you could/would/do deny yourself?
When was the last time you "held your sign high" for your "younger brother?"

Joe is in good company!  Remember the story from Exodus 17:8-16?
"The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”
So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”
Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner. He said, “For hands were lifted up to the throne of the Lord. The Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”

God may call you to be like Joshua:  "Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered"
God may call you to be like Moses:  "I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.'  As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning."
God may call you to be like Aaron and Hur:  "When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset."
Or God may call you to be like Trey, and fight the fight of cancer.

May you and your "altar" boldly declare the victory like Moses:  "The Lord is my Banner."

Thank you for raising a banner to God on your knees for Trey this Trey Tuesday - and everyday!  :)

"So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD is Peace."

A Cure!

"Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and
healing every disease and sickness."
Matthew 9:35
The people in Jesus' time didn't have to search far to find the cure for whatever ailed them.
Our passage today says Jesus healed every disease and sickness!
But why was there still disease and sickness in the world?
Remember the invalid in John 5?  Jesus asked, "Do you want to get well?"
Gulp.  I guess the sick person needed to come face to face with Jesus and answer that question for himself!

Over 2,000 years later we are in the same position.  You may face physical disease like Trey.
You may carry emotional sickness like Joe and Bella probably deal with every day since Trey's diagnosis.
You may even battle a fatal spiritual condition.

Is there a cure?  Yes, there is!
Where do you search?

We praise God Team Mitlo One gathers (in person and via cyber) together to pray to our Almighty Healer for Trey each week/day!  :)
Yes, Trey wants to get well!
Yes, Trey's family wants to be well!
Yes, Jesus can heal every disease and sickness either sooner or later!
Yes, Jesus knows exactly what He is doing!  :)

Let's keep on our knees for Trey!

And please also be praying for Rachel and friends as they participate in the 2012 Pittsburgh CureSearch Walk for Children's Cancer!
"I will heal My people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security."
Jeremiah 33:6

Trey Tuesday - August 14, 2012

It's Time!

It's that time of year...the clock is ticking...we can all feel it!
School, football, leaves, pumpkins, Christmas!!!!!!!!!  :)
Time is a funny thing.  It either moves too fast or too slow.
Hmmm....mid-August...seems that the summer clock is speeding by a bit too fast these days!

Yet, as Jay and Rachel reminded us this past week, time has been Trey's friend.  :)
On that horrible day of surgery last year, August 10, Jay and Rachel (and Team Mitlo One) prayed to have one more day with Trey!
Here we are 369 "days" later!
Praise the Lord!

Please pray for the Lord to continue to bless Trey's time with much great health and strength and progress through his treatments!
And for Jay and Rachel to continue being awesome parents and spouses using time with their whole family in such fun ways!
And for the them to feel God's peace when time seems uncertain!
And for Joe and Bella to forget about time and fear and worry and to trust their earthly parents and Heavenly Father!

What about you?
How is your grasp of time?
Let's learn ANOTHER lesson from Trey!
Defy time - and live!  :)

"I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation."
2 Corinthians 6:2

Trey Tuesday - August 7, 2012

Trey for the Gold!  :)

Summer Olympics - you just cant beat the air of competition, team spirit, American pride and good old fashioned reward for a job well done!

You know, we all have a race to run.....

And of course, Trey paints a beautiful picture in this regard.
In July, Trey was chosen to cut the ribbon opening the Relay for Life in Penn Hills (fundraiser of the American Cancer Society.). Trey and Jay were then invited to join in the Survivors' lap around the track!  :) Trey, however, had had a busy day and was verrrrry tired!  Jay carried him three quarters of the way around the track!  Just when Jay was growing weary Trey turns to Jay and says, "I'm ready to run the race, Dad!"  "Wow!  How poignant," I thought!  Amazing, how spiritual our Young Warrior is!
But
Trey's "I'm ready to run the race, Dad" really meant, "I am ready for you to run while you are holding me, Dad!"
Has God ever had you in a "race" that you didn't choose to enter?  Have you ever felt like you couldn't "run" one more step?
Yet begrudgingly, you did.
Listen to Trey's words:  "I'm ready!"  He was choosing to be ready!  He was facing the challenge and going for it - in the safety and strength of his father's arms!  :)
Just like he does day after day after day in his fight against cancer.  Except he doesn't know it.
His family, Team Mitlo One and the grace and mercy of God surround and carry Trey!  :)

Does that sound familiar?
"
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. "
Hebrews 12:1-3

This Trey Tuesday let's celebrate along with our Olympic winners!

Let's thank God for Trey's awesome CT scan last week!
Let's praise Him for the ever growing supportive great cloud of witnesses: Team Mitlo One!
Let's rejoice in Trey's great health this summer  - allowing Trey and Joe and Bella and their parents to enjoy many fun summer days together!
And
let's glorify God each time we speak of Trey and all that God is doing through Him! "Run in such a way as to get the prize."
I Corinthians 9:24

Young Warrior!

It's Trey's turn!  :)
Let's take a peek at the t-shirt Jay and Rachel designed for Trey: our Young Warrior!
To define a warrior is to speak of one who is courageous, fearless, confident, strong, a fighter, a soldier...aka TREY!  :)

The scripture Jay and Rachel chose for Trey's shirt is from John 16:33:
"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
I was blessed to spend part of this weekend with long lost extended "family." Oh, how this verse rings ever true!
Broken hearts, burdens, illnesses, accidents, and tragedies bind us together amidst hugs and tears and prayers.
And this scripture gently, although straightforwardly, reminds us, "In this world you will have trouble."
Even though we know it with our heads, it still hurts our hearts terribly.

But wait!
Read the rest of the verse:  "But take heart! I have overcome the world."
(King James version says, "But be of good cheer!")

Watching our extended "family" watch Trey was such a gift!
You see, these long lost friends are part of Team Mitlo One, praying, supporting, encouraging, cheering the Mitlos on, although never having met Trey!
As they watched Trey run and talk and play and slide and eat snow cones and play Fruit Ninja(!), he gave them a bit of good cheer!
Trey, our Young Warrior, was living the gospel loud and clear that Jesus HAS overcome the world!  Thank God Almighty! :)

And now we know yet again, with Trey's CT Scan next week...trouble could be looming.  "But be of good cheer!  Jesus has overcome!"
Yes, let's rest there!
Rachel writes:
Please be praying for sweet, baby Trey, the scan next week and for us as we pray for wisdom. We know that whatever happens, God is in control. Do you believe that, too? It's true!

"In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."

Trey Tuesday - July 24, 2012

Sassy Princess

Yes, that could only mean that it is Bella's turn this week!  :)
Bella, the big sister of Trey - the little sister of Joe - that's right - the middle child!  :)
AND Jay and Rachel's daughter!  :)
Need I say more to describe this vivacious, witty, wonderful, wise Mitlo woman!?!?!?!  :)

Let's take a peek at the scripture Bella's parents chose for her t-shirt:  Proverbs 31:25:
NIV says:  "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."
They are some pretty powerful words in light of having a brother like Trey!
Laugh at the days to come - really?  yep!
Let's look at some other translations:
New Living Translation says:  "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future."
That is an even bigger task:  to laugh without FEAR of the future!
NASB:  "Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future."
When was the last time you were faced with a trial/struggle/difficulty/impossibilty and your SMILED at your future!?!?
As we gather on this Trey Tuesday, let's capture these words for Trey, for ourselves as well as for this wonderful Sassy Princess we love:  Bella!
As you dress each morning (and for you moms of young children - for each time you dress each child!) think a little deeper than if your top and bottom match.
(Or in the case of Bella - do your sparkles match your boa!?)  :)
Are you dressed with the strength and dignity time in the Word, in prayer, in worship alone can give?
Can you laugh at the days/weeks/months/years to come?  every moment in eternity?

Please pray for big sister, Bella, especially in light of Trey's cancer -
for her to seek and know and follow the strong and mighty Light of Christ all the days of her life, laughing, trusting, fearlessly!
Oh, to have her confidence!  :)
And for her to verbalize when she doesn't have the strength...

Please continue to praise God for this absolutely wonderful, healthy Summer of Trey - much laughing, smiling, joy!  :)
Please also continue to pray for Trey's treatments to be effective and completely healing!  :)

And praise the Lord:  Happy Anniversary Jay and Rachel!  :)
In the the strength of the Lord I'll end with the Message version:
"and she always faces tomorrow with a smile."
Proverbs 31:25

Trey Tuesday - July 17, 2012

Ferocious Joe
Trey's parents have created a series of t-shirts for Trey and Joe and Bella for us all to wear in order to encourage Joe and Bella
as they walk this walk with Trey, as they run this race and as they march as devoted soldiers in the Lord's Army!  :)

I thought it would be fun to take a look at the verses Jay and Rachel chose for their children's logos as a special angle for
Pray for Trey Tuesday.
For this week we will focus on big brother, Joe.

Ferocious Joe:
"Of David. Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle."
Psalm 144:1

What a great verse!  (The Bible is just FULL of them, I know!)  :)

But in light of Joe, it is especially awesome!  :)

Think about the psalmist who penned this...David....the shepherd boy...the slayer of the giant...the harpist...
Our Joe is a gentle and wise young man at his ripe age of 9.
Yet his loyalty is fierce.  His obedience is black and white - no gray areas allowed anywhere ever.
He is not just a strong boy (as evident in his jiu jitsu moves!), but Joe is a boy of God's Strength!
He leans heavily on his earthly father and knows they all lean on their Heavenly Father!

And David became King of Israel - chosen above rank and order in his family.
Joe deals with a lot of competition for his parents' attention with Trey's cancer - certainly not befitting a "first born."
As this verse reminds us though, they are in a battle.
Some days a battle called sibling rivalry.
Some days a battle called typical kids whining and complaining.
But always a physical battle against Trey's cancer.
And always, Ferocious Joe knows Who wins the spiritual battles!
God has prepared Joe's hands, fingers and his knees for prayer!

So, thank you for rallying around Trey AND Joe this Trey Tuesday!
Let's praise God for our Trainer, our Rock in battle!
Please pray for physical healing for Trey's battle against cancer!
Please pray for spiritual and emotional strength for Joe!
Ad please pray for a safe and healthy and fun-filled vacation for the family this week!

"Of David. Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle."
Psalm 144:1

Trey Tuesday - July 10, 2012

God the Artist!
Trey the Masterpiece!

As we witness the daily miracles God displays through Trey, I can't help but think of this verse from Scripture:

"For we are God's workmanship (masterpiece), created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Ephesians 2:10

Oh, how God has fearfully and wonderfully created Trey!
And every new story about Trey causes a change in the heart/life of the reader!
THAT is good work!  :)

Now here is the hard part:
"which God prepared in advance...."

gulp.

God is so very trustworthy!
The same wonderful, warm and fuzzy God who provides us with images of silly Trey gulping pool water (!)
is the same All-Knowing Creator God who has His Hand on Trey's cancer!

This Trey Tuesday, please be sure that God has done a good work - in you!
Seek the joy and innocence of God which Trey displays!
Let's have a Summer of YOU!  :)

And as always, please pray for Trey!
For continued miracles!
For many more silly, fun, sweet times!
For his treatments to be effective!
For great health and strength for Trey!
For peace and comfort for Bella with painful swimmer's ears!
For confidence and comfort for Big Brother Joe leading his siblings!
And for wisdom and strength for Jay and Rachel!

"Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of his pasture."
Psalm 100:3

Trey Tuesday - July 3, 2012

What does "Summer" mean to you?

Is it a vacation to the beach?
Is it a jar of sun tea brewing on the deck while you cook on the grill?
Is it inviting friends to sit by the pool?
Is it sleeping late and NOT listening for the school bus?
Is it watermelon and corn on the cob?

Whatever your images of summer are, try to find refreshment this summer.
Take Trey as an example!
The Summer of Trey it is, and what a summer it has been already!!!  :)
Thank you all, for your prayers!  Trey and Joe and Bella and Jay and Rachel have been
having so much fun with family and friends this summer!
GREAT memories!

We pray our Young Warrior/our Eagle has shown us all how to renew our youth, find refreshment and joy....even in 1/3 of a bucket of water!  :)

Please pray for Trey this week, for continued AMAZING health and strength and zeal and stamina and sheer JOY!  :)
Please also pray for continued renewal for the Mitlos as God fills their summer with many, many good things!  :)

And speaking of youth:  Happy Birthday Rachel!  :)

"The Lord satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."
Psalm 103:5

Trey Tuesday - June 26, 2012

VBS!

This is Trey's first year to participate at Vacation Bible School!
Summer would not be complete without gathering with friends to learn about Jesus, sing some HIGHLY active songs,
make some awesome crafts, eat some tasty treats and learn about sharing the gospel message!
And Trey gets to take part in this wonderful tradition this year!
What a gift!
What a treasure!
What a reason to celebrate!

I'd like to take this Trey Tuesday to share with you the themes Trey will learn about each day at VBS this week at Hebron Church.
See if you could stand up tall and shout out loud that you believe these truths!  :)
MONDAY:  True Peace - Mark 4:35-41 - Jesus gives us peace no matter what problems we face

TUESDAY:  True Riches - Mark 6:30-44; John 6:1-14 - Jesus knows what we need and will provide what's best for us

WEDNESDAY:  True Power - Matthew 4:1-11 - Jesus shows us how to depend on God's powerful Word when we are tempted to sin

THURSDAY:  True Love - Mark 15:1 - 16:20;John 10:1-18 - Jesus loves us so much He died and rose again so we can be members of His family

FRIDAY:  True Hope - Praise in prison - Acts 16:16-40 - Jesus is with us so we can be fearless about our future

And please take some time each day to, of course, pray for Trey and his family in light of these themes:
True Peace - peace and joy for Joe and Bella!
True Riches - Trey's continued amazing-ness!
True Power - continued effective treatment!
True Love - strength and peace for Jay and Rachel!
True Hope - complete healing!

"Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Matthew 19:14

Trey Tuesday - June 19, 2012

The Heat is On!

How do you handle the heat?
Maybe you take your morning run a bit earlier!?
Maybe you stop for ice cream and water ice!?
Maybe you move your beach chair a little closer to the water!?

As the summer temperatures rally into position, may they be a reminder to pray for Trey.
The heat is on for Trey on a daily basis.  We all saw that this past weekend.
One minute we were celebrating the No-Crayon Dance and the next thing we knew Trey was in the Emergency Room
with mysterious symptoms!
What a roller coaster ride for Jay and Rachel and the kids!
(And for all of Team Mitlo One, too!)  :)

Let's find refreshment in the still, cool (or cascading, crisp!) waters of the Word of God!
"Whoever believes in Me,' as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”  John 7:38

"Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb" Revelation 22:1

Please lift Trey to the Lord for many more refreshing days of sun and play and WATER!  :)
And praise Him for every drop of water Trey can play in!  :)
Please ask the Lord for great family times during summer break!
And for quick and complete healing of Trey's bruises from IV attempts!
And please, as always, pray for Trey to be healed from cancer!

"But now, this is what the Lord says—
    He who created you, Jacob,
    He who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name; you are Mine.When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you."
Isaiah 43:1,2

Trey Tuesday - June 12, 2012

That's too bad....but is it?

We've all been there.  Some of us live there.
Hearing the saga of a friend's life...a lost job, a broken engagement, an unaffordable dream house, a broken down car, etc....
what is our natural response?
"That's too bad."
But is it?
Don't good things come after we suffer through some pretty tough times?
A better job, a wonderful new relationship, a perfect family home and wonderful neighbors, protected from accidents, etc....just ask anyone
who should have been in New York City on September 11.

And a quick peek into the life of Jesus confirms it.
Jesus was tortured, beaten, whipped, spit on and died a terrible death on the cross.
"That's too bad."
But is it?
Of course not!  By His death, the sins of believers have been forgiven and our relationship restored with God Himself!
(Hebrews 10)

Paul and Silas stripped and beaten, flogged and imprisoned unjustly.
"That's too bad."
But is it?
The jailer and his family were saved by their witness!
(Acts 16)

Now, this next example is a little harder to take:
Trey's cancer has grown.
"That's too bad."
But is it?
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD."
Isaiah 55:8

And so we come to pray for Trey this Tuesday with great faith!
And with praise for the great news that Trey will have his Broviac line removed on Thursday!
Please cover him in prayer for a safe and successful surgery!
And for the cancer to stop growing!
And for Bella's rash to subside!
And for Joe and Bella and Trey and Jay and Rachel to be able to enjoy summer days together!
And in all things for God to be praised!
"Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders You have done. The things You planned for us no one can recount to You; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare."
Psalm 40:5

Trey Tuesday - June 5, 2012

Surf's Up!?

Perhaps you have been to the beach already this summer...or you will be going soon....
Perhaps you plan on making it to the wave pool or to a water park...
Or perhaps you have had so much rain and so many storms that your basement now has waves....
And we know Trey has had many waves/hurricanes/tsunamis in his life!

Where is God in all this?
Our Creator of all that we know is right in the middle of it!

"Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping."
Matthew 8:24

Were things out of God's control?  Had Jesus forgotten His job?
Nope!  :)
Read on....
"The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
Matthew 8:25

All assessments of the situation looked pretty bad.
Read on...
"He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm."
Matthew 8:26

Done.  (Notice how quickly and completely nature obeys Jesus.  hmmmm....????)
"The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him!”
Matthew 8:27

There are many passages of scripture which remind us of God's power!
We need to constantly, daily, hourly, remind ourselves deep down inside of God's abilities!
Not just over wind and waves, but over our Young Warrior, too!

Please hold Trey close in prayer this week, as you always so lovingly do!  :)
Offer praise for Trey's body accepting this round of treatment so well!
Ask for complete healing from his cancer!
Seek God's favor of great improvement in Trey's CT scan next week!
And always, give honor and glory to our Elohim/Creator of the Universe!

"Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided,
and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left."
Exodus 14:21-22
"By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned."
Hebrews 11:29
"The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground."
Joshua 3:17
"Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground"
2 Kings 2:8
"May you be blessed by the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth."
Psalm 115:15

Trey Tuesday - May 29, 2012

Are you OK?

We always seem to be asking that question...whether we have toddlers, preschoolers, teenagers (!), a husband, wife, dad, mom, neighbor or boss.

We just want to know that everything is right between us, that our relationship is in good standing, that we are on the same page.

A good friend of mine has been going through many family struggles for quite some time now.

Some issues are unbearable...hopeless...dreadful....
I know you can relate.
I know Jay and Rachel can relate, too.

Trey having cancer is not OK in our book.  It's horrible!

Joe and Bella having to adjust their lives in order to always having to consider a little brother who needs his parents in extraordinary ways is not OK in our book.  It's unfair!
Jay and Rachel having to endure the hardship and heartache of having a baby with a terrible diagnosis is not OK in our book.  It's cruel!

Well, let's thank God that His Book reigns supreme!

God knows the end before the beginning!
His plan and purpose are good and perfect!  :0)

We praise God for Trey's healthy days!

We ask for many, many more!
We pray for continued success with Trey's current medication - including disappearance of the tumors!
We pray for complete healing for Trey!

My friend, Kristin, recently gave me another painful progress report on her family.

I asked her how she was feeling about it all.
She sweetly and humbly replied, "I guess I'm OK with what's not OK."

Let's sweetly and humbly surrender, too!  :)

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. "
Jeremiah 29:11-13

A Lesson from a Wrangler

Our family trip to the Rocky Mountains just wouldn't have been complete without horseback riding up and down the scenic trails!

Despite the fact that I had never really ridden a horse before, I had to give it a try!  :)
Just to be safe, I stayed close to the wrangler as he guided us as we guided our horses up steep hills and down narrow passages.
I watched carefully, prayed often, laughed a few times and listened to the wrangler share his cowboy tales and lessons.
Especially down the steep, narrow, rocky, uneven, mountain paths -
"What should I do with the horse?" I cried.  (not literally...well almost!)
The calm wrangler simply replied, "Lean back, loosen the reins and let him find his way."
Not my natural reaction facing downward, but it worked!

Trey and his family face many, many mountains!

Trey's days right now are filled with sweet and silly walks in peaceful meadows.
Some days and nights, though, feel like Rocky Mountain peaks and cliffs!

Let's pray for Jay and Rachel to
continue to guide their children as the wrangler suggested:
Lean back
- May Jay and Rachel trust God for the doctors and the current and future treatment plans.  May they all continue to enjoy Trey's strong health and silly antics!
Loosen the reins
- Please pray for the Mitlos to be able to loosen the reins of fear and worry - and for Joe and Bella to continue to communicate their feelings!
Let Him find His way
- "Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to Him,
and He will make your paths straight."
Proverbs 3:5-6

Trey Tuesday - May 15, 2012

Rocky Mountains

Rocky mountains and mole hills in our lives...we all have them.
Trey has more than average!

A recent look up close and personal at THE Rocky Mountains has helped me to put life in perspective.
We will skip the science lesson part (scientists estimate the mountains are 70+ million years old?)
Geography lesson time: The Rocky Mountains are approximately 2.5 miles high by 300 miles wide by over 3,000 miles long!
Huge!
Vast!
Unfathomable!
Nothing can "touch" these mountains, right?

"The mountains quake before Him
    and the hills melt away.
The earth trembles at His presence,
the world and all who live in it."
Nahum 1:5

These massive pillars of strength and endurance quake and tremble before our Heavenly Father!
Do we?
Or do we allow our problems to become a barrier?

Trey's cancer certainly could be a HUGE barrier in the lives of the Mitlos!
But you know what?  Jay and Rachel have chosen Jesus as their Rock, their foundation on which to build their family.
I know they want us to do the same.

So look around at the structures God has created.
Humble yourself under His power and strength!
Entrust Trey to God!
Ask with hope for healing for Trey!
Pray with faith for continued success in Trey's treatments!
And praise God for being good!

"
The Lord is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in Him"
Nahum 1:7

Trey Tuesday - April 24, 2012

I.N.R.I.

Have you ever seen this letters inscribed on a crucifix?

What do they stand for anyway?
These were the letters written above the cross where Jesus was crucified.
The common translation for these initials across the four gospels is
"The King of the Jews."
http://bible.cc/john/19-19.htm

Those who use Twitter and Facebook use acronyms daily!

(And believe me, it is verrrry easy to mix them up!)  :)

Spend some time with Trey and you will find "his" language difficult to decipher at times!

-especially when you are the one in charge of the remote or You Tube and need to find Trey his favorite shows:
"HandyMannyFreshBeatBandHighFiveNiHaoKaiLan" he easily repeats and repeats and repeats
until you get it right!  (Thank you, Joe and Bella for ALWAYS saving the day!)  :)

Much the same, no matter how hard we try, we just can't comprehend those six terrible letters:

c-a-n-c-e-r
when we look at Trey and watch him run and laugh and dance and play
- so full of life!

Please join me in praising God for so many great stories and victories in Trey's life!

Let's celebrate the lives that have been impacted for eternity because of the faith of one little boy and his family!
Let's offer thanks to God for two uneventful Mondays with Trey's new treatment!
And let's always continue to pray for God to heal Trey, to discover a perfect treatment plan for Trey
and for Jay and Rachel and Joe and Bella to be comforted and sustained by the grace of God!

As we pray for Trey this Tuesday, this week and every week

even if you don't understand red blood cells,
Disney Jr. or anything relating to social media,
please remember and rely on the code that is not top-secret, that God offers us in His Word from cover to cover,
from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21:
"In the beginning God"
He always was, He always is and He always will be!
"The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people.  Amen."

Trey Tuesday - April 17, 2012

Day by Day

Remember the lyrics from Godspell?
This song was actually a prayer written by Richard, Bishop of Chichester in the 1200s....long before many of our modern day maladies and illnesses, unemployment and crime, abuse and scandals.
Day by day
Day by day
Oh Dear Lord
Three things I pray
To see thee more clearly
Love thee more dearly
Follow thee more nearly
Day by day.

Wait!  How many things is he praying about?  Three!?!?!
I don't know about you, but there are many, many names on my prayer lists these days!  Way more than 3!
Where is our Young Warrior on this list of 3 "things!?"

As we gather for Trey Tuesday (and Trey Monday as he receives his new treatment each Monday) of course God wants us to lift Trey up,

petitioning God's healing hand upon our Young Warrior!  For God to protect Trey's body through this new treatment!  For Trey to be a #1 success story for this new scientific clinical study!
Of course God cares about Jay and Rachel as they wonder and worry and hope and trust through another attempt at destroying the tumors.
Of course God has set the doctors and nurses and facilities apart for Trey to receive God's very best!
And of course we ask God to surround Joe and Bella with His Shield!

But God has plans and goals for you!
Do you seek to see God more clearly?
Do you long to love Him more dearly?
Do you desire to follow Him more nearly?
Day by day by day by day by day?

"He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justice,
to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God
"
Malachi 6:8

Trey Tuesday - April 10, 2012

Counting....

What are you counting these days?
Easter eggs?  Did your kids find them all?
Calories now that YOU have found all the Easter candy?
Days until summer?
The candles on your birthday cake?  :)

We rejoice with Jay and Rachel as they praise God for the opening in the case study for Trey!
Are they counting their "lucky" stars that Trey got in?
Nope!

As important as counting is to our banker, our nutritionist, our car mechanic, our math teacher and the voting polls, God's love and power and strength
cannot be enumerated!
"I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb."
Revelation 7:9

"I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted."
Genesis 13:16

"Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand."
Psalm 139:18

So of all these things that God doesn't count...He COULD count them if He wanted to....what DOES He want us to count?
"Count it all joy, my brethren, whenever you face trials of many kinds"
James 1:2

No new math here....simply count "it" ALL joy!

Yes, Jay and Rachel rejoice in new hope for Trey!
Yes, a new treatment plan brings an end to their waiting and drives them into action!
And yes, this new unknown territory to face causes the Mitlos to cling to God's faithfulness!

Please pray for Trey - for strength and health and comfort during his tests!
For God to continue to show Jay and Rachel the way He has for them!
For Joe and Bella to be open and honest with their feelings and questions and concerns!
For Trey's treatment to be effective in stopping the growth of the tumor!
And for all of Team Mitlo One, my brethren, to indeed "count it all joy" wherever you are, whatever your "it" is!

"The Joy of the LORD is your strength"
Nehemiah 8:10

Trey Tuesday - April 3, 2012

Trey says, "Don't worry!  I'm OK!"

Trey is our inspiration in so many ways!
Today's Trey Tuesday is a grown up version of how Trey lives!
Those who are blessed with the privilege of seeing Trey up close and personal know that he has a silly tendency to repeat a few phrases:
"Don't worry!  Don't worry!" Trey says.  "I'm OK!  I'm OK!" he chants after a little slip and fall.
Oh, if we could only seize that spirit of faith and trust and joy!

Good Friday is almost upon us.
We all know what happened.  (If you don't, PLEASE read Matthew 27 http://niv.scripturetext.com/matthew/27.htm)
Jesus, innocent, holy Son of God, was tortured and crucified to pay for all sins for all mankind!
"They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on His head. They put a staff in His right hand and knelt in front of Him and mocked Him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. They spit on Him, and took the staff and struck Him on the head again and again. After they had mocked Him, they took off the robe and put His own clothes on Him. Then they led Him away to crucify Him."
Matthew 27:28-31

Jesus was made to wear a crown of thorns.
Where did those thorns come from anyway?
Let's go waaaaaaaaaay back to Genesis.
Because of the sin of Adam and Eve, the first sin ever, God cursed the ground and said,
"The ground will grow thorns and thistles for you"
Genesis 3:18

for you.  ouch.
But God used the thorn of sin upon His precious Son's head in order to bring forgiveness of our sin!
See....Trey is right!  "Don't worry!  It IS OK!". :)

Have you ever had a "thorn" in your life?

Do you think it is there to only cause you harm?
PLEASE be like Trey:  "Don't worry!  Don't worry!  I'm OK!  I'm OK!"
God can use ANYTHING ANYTIME for our good and His glory!

Please continue to pray for Trey as his next treatment plan is decided.

Please pray for God's BEST for Trey!
PRAISE God for Trey's joy and zeal and health!
And please pray for Jay and Rachel as they make decisions and trust the doctors' plans.

"For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one Man, Jesus Christ."
Romans 5:17

Fool or Faith?

Palm Sunday falls on April 1st this year:  April Fool's Day.
Palm Sunday, the beginning of the Easter Celebration:  the Resurrection of Jesus as our Savior and Lord,
Redeemer of sin-filled man cleansing the Way to Holy God!

Outside of God, on the Easter Bunny Trail of Life, it may seem quite fitting, "Only a fool would have faith," the world seems to say.
Really?
Are you calling Trey a fool?
Our Young Warrior has wholehearted faith and trust in his father and mother
to provide for his needs, protect him, comfort him and plan for his future.
And guess what?
Trey's parents do, too!
As do many, many members of Team Mitlo One!
As believers, full of faith in Jesus Christ, we wholeheartedly trust our Heavenly Father to
provide for our needs, protect us, comfort us and plan for our future!
Don't be a fool - have faith!  :)

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
Romans 1:16

It is with great faith we pray for Trey this Trey Tuesday:
For Trey to have continued amazing health and strength and silliness and joy!
For the perfect treatment to become available through the next study!
For God to completely heal Trey of cancer!
For Jay and Rachel to follow Trey in child-like faith!
For Joe and Bella to be blessed with much comfort and peace!

"Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
"
Ephesians 6:23

TRUST

Who or what do you trust?

Specifically speaking, I mean...

Ipods and Facebook and Twitter are all pretty trustworthy!
Dr. Oz sure has some great health info - He is trustworthy!
Dave Ramsey has some awesome financial wisdom - He is trustworthy!
Pastors Doug and Tim correctly (and wonderfully!) handle the Truth - They are trustworthy!
National Enquirer and The Weather Channel....hmmmm.....I better stop here! :)

Let's look at trust a different way...

Fit bodies and slim waistlines look to trust a scale and a tape measure...
Fancy shoes and clothes all depend upon trusting a trendy whirlwind...
Indulgent foods and addictive substances are trustworthy at the moment, but leave devastating consequences...

And what happens when comfort and peace are missing?

Are our relationships trustworthy?
Is our economy trustworthy?
Are we guaranteed good health?

"But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD,
   whose confidence is in Him."
Jeremiah 17:7

Praise God for His unending, never changing, Rock solid promises - forever and ever trustworthy!

Jay challenged us in a recent post.  He writes: The best thing you can do to honor Trey and our struggles is continue to ask God what does He want from you?

So....what DOES God want from you?
As you pray for Trey this week, please pray that God continues his amazing health and strength!
Please continue to pray for Trey to be healed from his cancer!
Please also pray for Jay and Rachel to know how and what to choose for Trey's next treatment!
And please release whatever substitute you are trusting and genuinely ask God:
What do you want from me?

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart
   and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to Him,
and He will make your paths straight.
"
Proverbs 3:5,6

What are you going to do about it?

In the Bible God uses the elements around His people to bring them closer to Him.
Today let's look at how a familiar passage unfolds:

"One day Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, He fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger."

Doesn't sound good, does it?  God is brewing up a storm and the disciples cannot, dare not, deny it!

Do you have any storms brewing in your health?
Dark clouds forming in your finances?
Barometric pressures dropping in your relationships?
Plenty of precipitation with your children and coworkers?
What are you going to do about it?!?

"The disciples went and woke Jesus, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”  He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” He asked His disciples.  In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him.” Luke 8:22-25

God calls a storm a storm.  It's coming.  Face it.
Most importantly, face Him.
“Where is your faith?”

Trey's cancer has thrown all of us into a devastating storm.
What are we going to do about it?
Just like the disciples we need to go to Jesus and call on the Master!
And all will be calm!

“Where is your faith?”

This week Trey and Jay and Rachel are facing a new chapter in Trey's treatment plan.
Please pray that Dr. Shaw is preparing an excellent plan for Trey!
Please pray that Jay and Rachel are able to discern their choices with Godly wisdom!
Please pray that Trey continues to dance, to sing, to play, to eat, to sleep, to laugh, and to love giving testimony to God's power!
And please pray that our Young Warrior and his journey bring many to faith in Christ!  :)
