Word Economy

When was the last time you wrote a report for work and someone said, "Great start....now write more...and more....and more.  You need to fill at least 10 pages!"  Can you imagine how few people would actually read beyond the first page?  Communication experts currently recommend capturing your entire email message in the Subject Line because few people open and read emails anymore!  It is time to practice good Word Economy - communicating your message in a few powerful words.

Let's see....who could help us with this?  Trey?  Um no.  Trey used a LOT of words...often...to tell his stories, express his wants, and compete with Joe and Bella!  :)

Jesus sets the example for us.  We are able see and feel clearly His passion and purpose and message.

"Come, follow me,”  Matthew 4:19
"Love one another."  John 13:34

'Nuff said!  :)

Why Bother?

We sing songs every Sunday.  Sometimes people raise their hands.  Some people clap or dance.  And a few look upward - or downward - or inward while singing.  What is up with all these motions?  True worship is about praising God!  Lifting Him above all the messes that we trip over all day everyday in our lives.

I often lean toward Psalm 150:  "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord."  I imagine dogs barking, frogs croaking, and birds singing all as a choir proclaiming the greatness and wonder of our Creator God!

But for God's people?  Let's claim God's Word and the power in praising His Name!
Psalm 149:9 says, "This is honor for all His godly ones." "May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands," Psalm 149:6

Just You Wait and See!

Trey's birthday was Sunday.  He would have been 11 years old!  Baby Trey at 11 years old - I literally cannot imagine it!  However, in my heart I know Trey would still be the same wonderful boy - living life to the fullest!

My mom/Jay's mom/Trey's grandma, often imagines Trey in heaven running and playing and mayyyyybe shouting commands at the angels!  :)

But can you hear Trey - cheering Joe and Bella and Jay and Rachel - and the rest of us on?  He's shouting for us to, "Hang in there - Just you wait and see how wonderful heaven is!  Come on and run with me down the gold streets!  It's so shiny and beautiful!  I can't even move the pearly gates!  (I'm sure he has tried!)  And I have soooo many friends here!  But my bestest friend is Jesus!  Come meet Him!"

Press on friends.  The best is yet to be!

"The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life."  Revelation 22:17

Sticks and Stones

We all probably remember the song we sang to get ourselves out of bullying situations as children:  Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
As an adult I used to think that this song was a huge lie we believed.  Words DO hurt!

But then I did a little reading about the origin of the rhyme.  It seems to be from the 1800s.  The Christian Recorder interprets the saying to mean:
True courage consists in doing what is right, despite the jeers and sneers of our companions.

Hmmmm....sound like anyOne you know?  Yes, yes, Trey may have thrown a few jeers and sneers at family members in the quest for the TV remote.....but I'm speaking of Jesus.  This is an Easter story!  Sticks and stones DID break His bones.....yet, the words, the names, the jeers and sneers did not keep Him from His goal:  Jesus' love for you and me were worth it!  :)

Jesus is our Hero who endured the cross.  Do you have the courage to live for Him?

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."  Hebrews 12:1-3
