Stop It!

Our world is filled with hate.  Division.  Prejudice.  Hurt upon hurt.
How does this happen?

Everyone was nice to Trey.  How could you not be nice to a little boy with cancer?
What about the sweet little old man who sits quietly in his rocking chair on his porch every day?  Simple!

Now let's kick it up a notch!
Are you patient with the little girl who is struggling to figure out why her single mom won't/can't buy her the latest greatest clothes/shoes/phone/game?
Or the senior citizen at the store who doesn't realize the difference between swiping and a chip?
Do you offer kindness to the slow driver in front of you when you are running late?
Or the cranky co-worker who is silently fighting a battle too intimate to talk about?

The answer is simple.  Very simple.  Remove the agendas.  Discard the phobias.
Stop making life painful for others - and yourself.  God says it verrrrrrrrrrrry clearly:
Be.  Ye.  Kind.

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."  Ephesians 4:32

Enough!

When is enough enough!?!
Snow? Ice?  Rain?
Taxes?
Cable/Netflix/Hulu channels?
Presidential nominees?
Yogurt flavors?
When is enough enough?!?

How can we stop and savor the simple things in life?

Imagine you had one last day with Trey. Would you spend it scolding him for leaving the frig door open......again?  Or would you simply be still and sit beside him? - Remember: you could sit next to Trey, but just not tooooo close! - he would definitely remind you to move over! :)

God is whispering sweet secrets to you...right now. Can you tune out the screaming world and listen closely for Him?

Tell the world, “Enough!”

"The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to Him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, Jesus said to them, “Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”  Mark 6:30-31

What are You Wearing?

I love teaching Preschool!  The eager learners and the simplified lessons are a great combination for planting the seeds of God's Word in their lives!  I vividly remember teaching the Armor of God from Ephesians 6:10.  The sword of the Spirit, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith.  It was so much fun to make a breastplate out of a brown bag and a sword out of a paper towel tube so we could pretend to fight the enemy with God's strength!  :)

That was then.

This is now.

Our families are hurting.  Our children are suffering.  Our culture is crying for God's hope.  It's time for us to put down the paper towel tubes and pick up the Whole Armor of God....and take our stand.  And stand firm.

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power."  Ephesians 6:10

Can You Imagine?

Trey was born in 2008.  Can you even imagine that he would be 11 years old this year?
I can just seem him - the same silly, funny, precocious, sweet little boy - just in a taller
body!  :)  Sometimes I try to imagine what his adult life would have been like.  Considering that the genes and personality that God gave Trey as a little boy would have followed him to adulthood, Trey would be (another) silly, funny, precocious, sweet Mitlo man!  :)

What about you?  Have you ever looked back in life, examining who you were as a child, identifying your similar characteristics today?  As I child I played "office", "restaurant", and "school".  My sister didn't always like playing those games with me, but I loved them!  As an adult I worked in an office, restaurant, and school!  God planted those seeds in me long before I ever realized what He was doing!

If you're unsure about what steps to take next in life, do a little study of yourself.  Ask your family and friends to walk down Memory Lane with you.  Ask God what He has prepared you to do.  Just imagine what He can do through you!

"And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."  Philippians 1:6
