Trey Tuesday - March 22, 2011

A boy and his sling shot...

For Trey Tuesday this week, let's travel WAY back in time to the days of David, the youngest son of Jesse.  David's 3 oldest brothers had left home to join the war against the Philistines.  We all remember the champion Philistine, the giant, Goliath.  Looking into I Samuel 17 we learn just how massive Goliath was: 9'9" tall, wearing a helmet and armor weighing 125 pounds, carrying a spear with its iron point weighing 15 pounds!  Something for certain to cause fear amongst Saul and the Israelite army.

David, the youngest son in the family, went back and forth from the war, delivering food and bringing home tokens of spoils and tending to his father's sheep.  It is important to note here, that before David went to the battle lines to ask his brothers how they were, he left his supplies with the 'keeper of supplies.'

Keeper of supplies...hmmm....not the usual noble title of one vital to victory in times of battle.  But I begin Trey Tuesday prayer right here.  Offering thanks to God for you, Team Mitlo One - the keeper of supplies for Trey and Jay and Rachel and Joe and Bella!  Without you, there would be soooo much more stress, and uncertainty, loneliness, and empty arms.  Thank you for not being afraid to roll up your sleeves, get down on your knees, offer your shoulder to lean upon, be a hand to hold, an ear to listen, offer encouragement from your lips and heart and be a friend to simply walk beside in this journey.  The Mitlos could not be doing as well as they are without your obedience to God calling you to serve in His Name!  All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name!

"As David was talking with his brothers, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, stepped out from his lines and shouted his usual defiance, and David heard it. Whenever the Israelites saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear."  As the doctors were talking with Jay and Rachel concerning Trey's cancer, they could have fled in great fear, except for the Heavenly Warrior (with a capital 'W'!) on their side!  Please continue to pray God's hedge of protection around Jay and Rachel and their marriage during this stressful time.

"David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”  Servant.  Not a popular word today.  Let's remember to pray for all the servants God has placed in Trey's life: servants of the Lord, servants of the hospital, servants of the community, etc. all committed to their roles.  Please pray for them to use their knowledge and God's wisdom to care-filled-ly tend to Trey and the many, many details mounting in his daily care.  Please also pray for Joe and Bella and the special caregivers in their lives to be sensitive to their needs.

"Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you.”   Please pray for the Lord to be with Trey as he lays in his hospital bed.  Please pray for Trey to fight his fight and win his race.  Pray for his white blood cell count to be like those miraculous loaves and fishes and MULTIPLY!  :0)  And please pray for the Lord to make His power known to a watching world by Trey feeling better, and eating well and being a busy boy again - beyond medical expectations!

"Then David took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.  Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David.  “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!”   David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give all of you into our hands.” As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.  Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, David slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into Goliath's forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.  So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him."
VICTORY!!!  Look carefully:  How did David kill the giant?  (hint:  don't say with a stone....)
It was with GREAT FAITH that David faced his giant and slayed him!
“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give all of you into our hands.”
And it is with GREAT FAITH that on behalf of Trey and his family we face his giant cancer and pneumonia and know that God has everything under control!

Take great comfort and peace and strength in praying with us to our Champion God on behalf of our young warrior!
"The battle is the LORD’s."
I Samuel 17
