Trey Tuesday - January 15, 2013

The Roar or the Whisper?

No, I'm not talking about Trey's voice (although I could be!) :)
Let's take a peek into I Kings 19 when Elijah is hiding from opposing forces which were out to get him.

"Elijah was afraid and ran for his life." verse 3
Ever feel like that?
Think you can outrun your problems, stresses, fears?

"He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die." verse 4
Wow!  Elijah seems hopeless/desperate...out of possibilities.
From his point of view....

"All at once an angel touched him" verse 5
Well, well, well....I guess the human perspective was trumped by an angel sent by God Himself!
Elijah gave up.  Surrendered.  Quit trying with his own might.
And God's messenger came near...near enough to touch him!!!

But the story doesn't end there!
Strengthened for the journey, Elijah travels to a cave at the mountain of God.
Perhaps to hide?  Perhaps to rest?
God had other plans...

"The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by." verse 11
Wait!  What!?!?!  Stand out on the mountain?
What if something happens while I am out there?
What if it's dangerous?
'You know, God,' Elijah might say, 'the depths of the cave sure are cozy and warm and....uh....safe!'

"Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind.
After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.
After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.
And after the fire came a gentle whisper." verses 11 and 12

Oh, Team Mitlo One, Trey has been through the wind, the earthquakes and the fires lately!
Things like the stomach bug over the course of 5 days, CT scan, with contrast!, CT report, flu shot, and weekly treatment - without getting into
sibling rivalry, typical 4 year old behavior and moods, and oh yeah - cancer!
God indeed has spoken to many of us through those trials.
But perhaps God chooses to whisper...a gentle whisper.
Are you still enough to hear Him?
Do you speak the "language?"
Would you recognize His voice?

The Mitlos have been out on the mountain and your prayers have surrounded them!
THANK YOU for lifting up Trey and Jay and Rachel and Joe and Bella and Trey's team of doctors and nurses!
Thank you for rallying when the going gets tough!
And thank you for being there for the day to day!  :)

We shout out praise to God for this season of a HUGE blessing of NO GROWTH on Trey's scan!  :)
And yet we intimately whisper to God, pleas of continued great health and strength and joy and peace for Trey and his family!
Please continue to also boldly approach the throne of God on Trey's behalf, asking for God's mercies and richest blessings for the healing of his cancer!

"He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed."
Psalm 107:29
